Cabin CANTONNIER
The profession of Cantonnier emerged after the revolution with the
disappearance of chores. This shelter built by one of them to the 19th
century
served as a shelter for meals and to protect him and his tools during
inclement weather. The Cantonnier was responsible for a section of
highway one dozen kilometres on which ditches, blood letting, vegetation,
pavement (then unpaved) was his care.
All around Treignac ten cabins still exist and are protected and maintained
by by the successors of the road, agents operating Department for works of
the State.
